Worshipping of the beast rising from the sea
and the beast rising from the earth

Revelation 12:18 – 13-18

And the dragon set foot on the sand of the sea.

Here applies wisdom. The understanding has calculated the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and the number is six hundred sixty six.

And I saw a beast rise up out of the sea, and it had the horns ten and the heads seven and on its horns ten diadems and on its heads names of blasphemy. And the beast, which I saw, was like a panther, and his feet as those of a bear and his mouth as the mouth of a lion. And the dragon gave him his power, and his throne, and great authority. And I saw one of his heads as if it were wounded to death. But his deadly wound was healed and all the world wondered after the beast; and they worshipped the dragon because he had given the power to the beast; and they worshipped the beast, saying: Who is equal to the beast and who is able to fight him? And a mouth was given to him, speaking great things and blasphemies, and power was given to continue forty and two months. And it opened its mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his Name, and the dwelling place of God, and the residents of heaven. And it is given to him to fight the saints, and to overcome them. And power was given to him over all tribes, and peoples and languages and nations.

And I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and it had two horns, like a lamb, and it spoke as a dragon. And it exercised all the power of the first beast before him, and causes the earth and her inhabitants to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. And it does great wonders, so that it makes fire come down from heaven on earth before the people. And it deceives them that dwell on earth by those wonders which it had power to do in sight of the beast. It orders them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image for the beast, that had the wound by the sword and revived again. And it was given to him, to donate breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast even can speak and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And it causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to mark themselves on their hand, their right, or on their forehead, that no man might buy or sell, save he that had this mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

And all that dwell on earth shall worship it, all whose names are not written in the book of life, in the book of the Lamb, that is slain, since the foundation of the world. If any man have an ear, let him hear: He that leads into captivity, shall go into captivity; he that kills with the sword, must be killed with the sword. Here is found truthful the patience and the faith of them giving ear to God.
