And I turned to see the voice that spoke with me

Revelation 1: 9-20

I, John, your brother and partner in suffering, and in the living through of the kingship, and in patient anticipation of Jesus Christ, I was on the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus.

Write the things you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter; the mystery of the seven stars which you saw in my right, and the seven candlesticks, the golden: the seven stars are the angels of the seven communities and the candlesticks, the seven, are the seven communities.

There, I was in the spirit on the Lord’s day; and I heard behind me a mighty voice, as of a trumpet, saying: I am Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last; and what you see, write that in a book, and sent it to the seven communities which are in Asia; to Ephesus, and to Smyrna, and to Pergamon, and to Thyatira, and to Sardis, and to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.

And when I saw him, I fell at his feet like dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying: Fear not! I am the First and the Last, I am the living and was dead. Behold, living I am from aeons till aeons and I have the keys of death and the underworld!

And I turned to see the voice that spoke to me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; and in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like the Son of man, clothed with an undulating garment down to the foot, and girt about the breasts with a golden girdle. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were as flames of fire; and his feet were like fine brass, as if they were made glowing in a furnace; and his voice was as the sound of a multitude of waters. And he had in his right hand stars, seven, and out of his mouth went a sword, two-edged sharp, and his countenance was as the sun shining in his strength.
